Experimental physics is being popularized in high school

okt. 06, 2020

On 6 October, 2020 in Ventspils State Gymnasium No.1 10th grade pupils in framework of their physics class visited Ventspils University of Applied Sciences to get acquainted with experimental physics opportunities in Ventspils University of Applied Sciences laboratories where these experiments can be carried out.

Ventspils State Gymnasium No.1 physics teacher and VIRAC Astronomy and Astrophysics Department researcher Atis Aberfelds introduced the pupils with aspects of experimental physics. The research spoke about topics related to physics, for example mechanics, he demonstrated experiments and carried them out together with the pupils. The pupils also had a chance to use their creative side by creating souvenirs which they cut themselves with a laser. In the pictures you can see girls proudly presenting the souvenirs with initials 10.VV. cut with a laser.

The 10th grade pupils were introduced to STEM electronics club and Radio amateurs workshop.

When asked which part of the trip they liked the most, answers differed - souvenir making, experiments, new knowledge in physics but they also liked the Student Lounge which some pupils really enjoyed.

Whereas, the laboratory assisant Andrejs Dzelme was in charge of the technological support and the trip in laboratory rooms.
