Green Technology Hackathon has ended.

From 18-20 September Liepaja was shining in Europe’s Hackathon Map because in Liepaja University Green Tech Copernicus Hackathon took place. 66 participants over the course of three days with the support of team members and mentors created solutions for various challenges using Copernicus satellite data. 

In the Green Tech Hackathon 16 teams participated and offered their solutions for the challenges.     


The expert panel as the winning team acknowledged "Agristics" who received EUR 2000 financial price for developing their idea and EUR 600 for business consultations in Kurzeme’s Business Incubator. The team developed WEB app for agricultural land insurance companies to assess more easily the risks of the land - risks of flooding or drought. The winning team comprised of members from Ventspils University of Applied Sciences, Ventspils International Radi Astronomy Centre and Riga Stradins University.   

The second place and financial price EUR 750 and EUR 400 for business consultations in Kurzeme’s Business Incubator received the team "Satellite Art" who using Copernicus satellite data wants to promote higher education in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics and raise awareness of Earth's beauty and its fragile ecosystems by creating arts and design products.   .

 

The third place and financial price EUR 750 and EUR 400 for business consultations in Kurzeme’s Business Incubator received the team "Algae world" who worked on a platform that will collect algae locations using Copernicus satellite data in combination with wind and water flow measurements.       

 

Overall, more than a hundred people were involved in the hackathon - participants, mentors, supporters and organizers.     


This event provided young people with the opportunity to acquire new technical skills and demonstrate existing capabilities to find unique solutions for challenges.The participants also had a chance to meet with professionals from different sectors in mentoring sessions and find new friends and potential business partners.
